Chelsey Doerksen

In 1988 pilots flying over the Arctic spotted two whales trapped inside the ice. They made great effort to set the poor whales free. In their great effort they managed to set one of them free. Needless to say, the other whale died in the massive clump of ice, on June 10th of that very same year, I was born. My name is Chelsey and would love to introduce myself to you. Winnipeg, MB is where it all began; where I grew up with an awesome family. Some of the most important people in my life include my parents, Lynn and Gord, my brothers, Jason and Tyler, and my sister-in-laws, Emily and Monica. My family has shaped who I am and where I am today. Without them and their unfailing support I wouldn’t be working towards my degree at North Park University in Chicago, IL. By December 2010 I will be graduating NPU with an Elementary Education Degree, as well as a concentration in Mathematics. Woot!

Other then school and all of its exciting tasks, I have many other interests. For example, I love to travel. Over Christmas break this past year I went on a Global Partnership Trip to Thailand, which truly impacted and shaped the way I see the world and God’s people in it. I also love sports. I played hockey growing up and now play on the North Park Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team. I love hanging out and being social, currently I live with 7 roommates in a big house on campus and love almost every second of it. Lastly, one of my greatest passions is children. I plan to invest in kids not only as students at a school but also as children of God. Being a camp counselor is one of my favourite jobs, although it is hard to consider it a job since I enjoy playing games and running around as much as the next kid. This summer provides immeasurable opportunity to impact campers’ lives and further the kingdom of God. I look forward to investing love and support into each camper this summer and taking every opportunity presented to me to spend real time getting to know the children and youth of the camps and churches across Canada.

Aaron Coutts

Hi, my name is Aaron Coutts-Smith. I am from a small town in South Western Ontario called, Sarnia. I am the second born. I have 3 brothers and no sisters; sometimes this makes me feel bad for my mom. She grew up in a family with only sisters and now in turn had to raise four boys. I was born on October 1st1990, which, coincidentally is the same date of birth for 3 of my friends growing up. I was a member of the Canadian Reserves for two years. I joined in high school through a co-op program and just recently voluntarily released.  I have been attending church my entire life and am terrified to think about where my life would be today if I didn’t have the support of fellow Christians. I will be attending Rocky Mountain College in the fall, for the next four years, taking a course in youth leadership.

With Sarnia only being 2.5 hours from Toronto and 2 hours from Detroit, when it comes to hockey you are either a Leafs fan or a Red Wings fan. I chose neither; I am a Colorado Avalanche fan. For others sports though, I enjoy watching the Detroit Tigers (baseball) and the Chicago Bears (football). I love comedies; anything and anyone that can make me laugh I enjoy. I spend a good portion of my free time watching either The Office or Seinfeld. I also like movies that make me think and have a big twist at the end. When I’m not spending my time watching television, I spend it reading and listening to music. My all time favourite authors are Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. In fact my entire book collection is Peretti and Dekker but recently I have developed an interest in Charles Dickens and I am currently reading his book Hard Times. When it comes to music my all time favourite band is Audio Adrenaline. I also like to listen to Jack Johnson and The Fray. I look forward to this summer and the next four years of Bible College at how God is going to use and shape me through these experiences.

Nathan Bertram

Hi, my name is Nathan Bertram. I was born on August 26th 1990 in the town of Melfort, Saskatchewan. I am the second youngest of five brothers. Growing up, my family attended church for as long as I can remember and from a very young age I have had the knowledge of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. I never fully understood the meaning behind it all until later on in life. Today I strive to walk fully in his word, trusting his grace and power everyday. Having graduated from high school last year, I've been living here in Melfort and working full time in the hopes of entering post-secondary education in the near future.

I've often found joy in both the simple and the profound and consider myself a creative individual. I love art in all its forms, drawing, painting, literature, music, and film, I take great joy in it all. I take a special interest in movies, the culmination of all my favourite art forms, and I hope to pursue a career in that direction. For this summer I'm hoping to simply build a foundation in my faith before setting off for the future.
